This Jaeger-LeCoultre piece was sent to our facility with the owner stating, “I am not sure what the watch needs. Something is loose on the inside and it has not worked for many years.” It is completely normal to not know what’s wrong with your precious timepiece, or even with your jewelry piece in many cases. That’s what our expert team is here for! It’s always best to let us know what you do know, and we’re here to let you know the rest.
For this Jaeger-LeCoultre watch repair, we had to:
- Perform our standard and free professional evaluation after noting the repair requests of the customer
- As you may have already known, although we are an online jewelry and watch repair company, we only provide evaluations when our skilled craftsmen can physically asses the items in person at our secure facility
- Our team assessed that due to the age and condition of this timepiece, spare part availability and water resistance couldn’t be guaranteed
- Perform a complete clean and overhaul of the internal mechanism due to its gear train issue
- This service includes cleaning, oiling, adjustment, and replacement of worn internal mechanism parts (as needed)
- Provide a professional cleaning and polishing for its case
- Replace and install a new watch crystal due to the heavy wear and scratches
- Hand the heavily worn dial to our partner Kirk Rich Dial for dial refinishing
And voilà! This beautiful vintage watch was restored back to its pristine condition.

There is a huge debate in the watch community on whether a watch dial “loses value” after losing its patina and if there is a better choice to refinish it or not.
There’s not always a “better” choice when it comes to dial refinishing as it’s completely subjective. Kirk Rich Dial will always let our customers know when they have a special dial and if they should reconsider refinishing it. Regardless, they always abide by the customer’s request and do whichever makes them happy should they decide to refinish the original dial or not.
