The Details of this Vintage Automatic Watch Restoration
Welcome back to another Before & After blog spotlight! We thought it was about time to spotlight the first watch of the year.
This 1940’s Montrose Automatic Watch was sent in to us with a numerous amount of requests as it was a vintage piece. The owner noted that they wanted movement servicing, band and case refinishing, hand refinishing, and dial refinishing.
And everything was accounted for! The watch arrived at our facility with gear train issues, which required a complete cleaning and overhaul of its internal mechanism. It’s important to note that due to the age and condition of this timepiece, spare parts availability and water resistance could not be guaranteed, which is very common for vintage pieces like this. After providing our client with our notes, they approved the repair, and our watchmakers went ahead to do their magic!
For this vintage Montrose watch repair, we had to:
- Perform our standard and free professional evaluation by our expert technicians after noting the repair requests of the customer
- As you may have already known, although we are an online jewelry and watch repair company, we only provide evaluations when our skilled craftsmen can physically asses the items in person at our secure facility
- Our team assessed that due to the age and condition of this timepiece, spare part availability and water resistance couldn’t be guaranteed
- Perform a Clean & Overhaul of the Vintage Mechanical Movement, which included cleaning, oiling, adjustment, and replacement of worn internal mechanism parts as needed
- Provide a professional band & case refinishing
- Have our partners Kirk Rich Dial professionally refinish the dial
- Reassemble the entirety of the timepiece
And voilà! This beautiful vintage Montblanc timepiece was restored back to its proper working condition.
