I discovered this company because I had a damaged college ring from 1975 that no one, including the ring company, would replace the stone. For years I searched for a replacement. I sent my ring, not knowing if this would work. I got back my ring beautifully restored looking like new. I then sent a broken necklace to them. They replaced the chain and at my request added a magnetic closure. I felt like the pricing was excellent. They are wonderful at communicating with you. I can’t say enough good things about this company. I will use it for all of my jewelry repairs.

My daughter bought me this necklace for Christmas several years ago and it was so meaningful to me, I wore it every single day. It got caught on my hand one day and broke! I was so devastated. I’m a bit shy about talking to people, so luckily for me I found @myjewelryrepair. They took a picture when they got it, told me what the problem was and how much it would cost to fix and ship it back to me. I happily paid the price and was so grateful today to find it in my mailbox! They wrapped it up like a little present with wrapping paper and it was on a necklace holder in a jewelry box. I’m so happy to be able to wear my extremely special necklace from my daughter once again. Thank you!!

Sent in my wife's engagement ring. It was full of paint and gunk that we couldn't remove and it needed sizing. They made it look like new. As good as the first day she wore it. She was sooo happy with the work and we got it back the same week we sent it in. Will definitely be sending in all my jewelry for repairs and cleaning.

Had 2 different orders, one ring and one chain and both came back inspected with a report and cleaned looking like new. The chain has a clasp and the ring had weld splatter and both Were done very professionally and decent rates. A bit on the higher side for pricing but in Line with local quotes i received and far better time for the shipping and repair time.

I sent an heirloom ring to My Jewelry Repair to have it sized after my local jeweler was unable to do so due to the amount of stones within the tension setting. I communicated with them prior to sending it out to ensure that they were able to do the repair and the communication was excellent. I had sent them several photos so that they were able to view the ring and make a determination. I was a little nervous about mailing it, but it ended up being just fine. I got an update when it was received, when work was begun and when it was finished and ready for return. This was a seamless process and the craftsmanship was fabulous. My ring looked brand new once it arrived back to me. I will definitely use them again for other repairs and sizing.

Repair Your Emerald Pieces to Pristine Condition

Sourcing and replacing an emerald is much like matching an antique stained-glass window—it requires finding a gem that exhibits the exact same color saturation, natural inclusion pattern (jardin), and facet reflection under natural light. Whether replacing a missing accent stone on a vintage halo ring or setting a brilliant center-cut emerald into a modern mounting, our Master Jewelers deliver precise gemological matching to restore your jewelry’s value, symmetry, and structural integrity.

Emerald is the premier green variety of the beryl mineral family, deriving its vibrant green color from trace amounts of chromium and vanadium. Unique among precious gems, nearly all natural emeralds feature internal inclusions and surface-reaching fractures known as jardin (French for “garden”). Replacing a missing emerald requires gemological expertise to match both the primary body hue and the inclusion density of adjacent stones.

Our in-house team sources rare natural emeralds (including Colombian, Zambian, and Brazilian stones) as well as high-grade lab-grown emeralds. Lab-grown emeralds feature identical chemical, physical, and optical properties (Mohs hardness of 7.5–8) at an accessible price point. We consult directly with you to select the ideal stone caliber for your setting. If you need help evaluating your original gem, feel free to Contact Us.

Because emeralds are brittle and sensitive to pressure, setting an emerald requires exact seat carving to ensure the stone’s pavilion sits completely level without binding against metal supports. Inside our specialized Setting Lab, Master Jewelers execute all gemstone setting under high-power stereo microscopes.

Our jewelers hand-burr custom seats tailored specifically to your replacement stone’s millimeter girdle measurements. Every newly set emerald is torque-tested under magnification to deliver a laboratory-grade fit that prevents stone rattling or corner chipping. To learn more about our setting laboratory tools, feel free to Contact Us.

Most natural emeralds undergo traditional oil or resin treatments to fill surface fractures and enhance clarity. Applying intense heat from a traditional jeweler torch will scorch these oil treatments, strip the gem’s luster, or cause internal fractures to expand. To protect your gemstone, our laboratory utilizes advanced non-destructive laser welding technology.

Our Master Jewelers project micro-beams of laser light directly onto metal joints to retip worn prongs, rebuild thin bezel lips, or replace damaged heads without transferring heat to adjacent emeralds. This cold-welding approach guarantees your gemstone remains completely safe during metal restoration. If your mounting needs structural repair prior to stone setting, feel free to Contact Us.

Learn More

Due to the natural crystal structure and brittleness of green beryl, lapidaries developed the iconic “emerald cut”—a rectangular step cut with truncated corners designed to protect the gem from impact. Replacing an accent or center emerald in a step, trap, or halo mounting requires exact millimeter and facet proportion matching.

Our stone sourcing specialists utilize digital optical calipers to measure length, width, and depth down to hundredths of a millimeter. If a standard calibrated gem does not fit your vintage or custom mounting, our lapidary craftsmen can custom-facet an emerald to seat flush within your ring, pendant, or earring gallery. To consult with a stone matching specialist, feel free to Contact Us.

May Birthstone Emerald and Agate Fine Jewelry Rings Displayed and Reflected on Black Background
Emerald History & Gemology

Derived from the Greek word smaragdos (“green stone”), emerald is the celebrated beryl gem ranking 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale. Formally established as the modern May birthstone in 1912 by the Jewelers of America and treasured as the official 55th wedding anniversary gem, high-grade emeralds are up to 20 times rarer than diamonds. To explore its rich history, lore, and care tips, visit our May Birthstones Guide.

When selecting a replacement emerald, prioritizing vivid color saturation over flawless clarity is standard industry practice due to natural jardin inclusions. Because natural emeralds are often treated with natural oils, high-grade lab-grown emeralds or green tourmalines offer excellent alternative options with identical optical brilliance for daily wear.

Replacing an emerald within our laboratory follows a strict 5-step technical protocol to guarantee optical matching and structural security. First, upon arrival at our intake facility, your jewelry is logged into a secure tracking system with high-resolution diagnostic photography. In our specialized setting lab, GIA-trained gemologists measure mounting apertures with digital calipers and analyze surrounding stones for color saturation and jardin density before issuing an itemized estimate.

Once approved, our sourcing team selects a matching natural or lab-grown emerald, and certified bench jewelers hand-burr custom seats, laser-weld prongs, and set the stone under stereo microscopes. Following benchwork, the piece undergoes multi-stage hand polishing and gentle washing (avoiding harsh chemicals or ultrasonic shock). Finally, every replacement stone undergoes microscopic quality control inspection before being safely returned via trackable domestic shipping.

What Is the Difference Between Natural and Lab-Grown Emeralds?

Natural emeralds are mined beryl gemstones formed over millions of years, typically containing internal inclusions (*jardin*). Lab-grown emeralds are cultivated in controlled laboratory environments using identical chemical compounds, possessing the exact same 7.5–8 Mohs hardness and vivid green hue at a more accessible price point.

Why Are Ultrasonic Cleaners Bad for Emerald Jewelry?

Ultrasonic cleaners use high-frequency sound waves that vibrate liquid. Because most emeralds contain natural surface-reaching fractures treated with cedarwood oil or resin, ultrasonic vibrations can strip these oil treatments or cause internal fractures to expand. Our facility uses gentle, specialized hand-cleaning protocols for all emerald jewelry.

How Much Does an Emerald Replacement Cost?

The total cost consists of two parts: setting labor (starting at $49.99 for individual stone setting) and the price of the replacement gemstone itself. Stone pricing varies depending on whether you select a natural or lab-grown emerald, as well as its carat weight, color grade, and millimeter dimensions.

Can You Replace Missing Accent Emeralds in Halo or Channel Settings?

Yes. We maintain an extensive inventory of micro-calibrated round, square, and step-cut emeralds. Our Master Jewelers rebuild worn channel walls or retip halo prongs using laser welders before seating the replacement accent stone flush with surrounding gems.

How Long Does an Emerald Replacement Take?

Once your item arrives and you approve your digital quote, standard emerald replacement and setting is typically completed within 3 to 5 business days. If a rare Colombian natural emerald or custom lapidary cutting is required, turnaround times may extend slightly, with full tracking visible throughout.

Is My Emerald Jewelry Insured During Mail-In Shipping?

Yes. Every domestic shipment through our platform includes trackable carrier shipping with customizable insurance options to protect your valuable emerald jewelry from the moment it leaves your hands until safely returned to your door.
