A Complete Vintage 1970’s Mechanical Timepiece Restoration
Some of our favorite transformations have to do with restoring vintage pieces that most likely hold sentimental memories from past owners, hence our motto “We Restore Memories.”
This vintage Vulcain Manual Wind Up Timepiece from the 1970’s looks like it had its own history, as it required a complete clean & overhaul of the worn out internal mechanism parts. There were problems in the internal mechanism due to gear train issues.
The timepiece model itself also had a number of 17 jewels in its movement, which is common for mechanical wind up movements. As we previously mentioned before in our Vintage Jules Jurgensen 19-Jewel Timepiece Restoration, watch jewels are tiny synthetic gems that are set into the watch movement itself. These tiny pieces of synthetic gems of ruby or sapphire and aid in reducing friction, therefore making the internal mechanism and movement gears rotate smoother and more accurately.
For this full watch restoration, we had to:
- Professionally evaluate the entirety of the watch’s external and internal parts
- Source out a new mainspring and two new crystals for replacement
- Perform a complete clean & overhaul of the internal mechanism (includes cleaning, oiling, and adjustment of parts)
- Monitor the timepiece to make sure the watch movement was properly functioning
It is then wrapped up with our complimentary WOSTEP-Certified Clean & Polish service.
We make sure that our Certified Watchmakers at our Watch Repair Service Center have the proper certifications before working on your precious timepieces. Our Team of experienced Watchmakers have many Watch Repair Certifications, some of the major ones including:
