An Invisible Channel Setting Diamond Ring Repair
The Details of Invisible Setting Diamond Ring Restoration
Welcome to another Before & After blog spotlight! Whether you’re here for the first time or returning as a valued reader, we’re thrilled to have you with us.
This 18kt gold-plated invisible setting diamond ring was sent to us with a missing gemstone. Luckily for them, our experienced Master Jewelers are experienced in the art of invisible settings, also known as mystery settings. We’ll dive deeper into these terms after the repair details.
After evaluating this invisible setting diamond ring, we let the customer know that we’d replace the missing princess-cut diamond, as well as two chipped gemstones in the channel. It was also important to note that due to the side channels being worn due to normal wear, our jewelers had to rebuild the side channels for additional security of the stones. The shank of the ring was also worn down to normal use, and we offered to restore it back to its most secure condition.
For this diamond ring repair, we had to:
- Perform our standard and free professional evaluation after noting the repair requests of the customer
- As you may have already known, although we are an online jewelry and watch repair company, we only provide evaluations when our skilled craftsmen can physically asses the items in person at our secure facility
- Source out three princess-cut diamonds
- Rebuild the invisible setting gallery and shank
- Groove and set three invisible gemstones, making sure the stones were secure in the channel
- Remove the yellow gold plating by request and perform a professional clean and polish with a white gold rhodium finish
And voilà! This white gold invisible channel setting diamond ring was restored back to its pristine condition, sparkling even brighter than when it was sent to us.
Our in-house Master Jewelers can promptly diagnose and repair any of your rings like this one so you can wear it again where it belongs – on your finger! Our skilled jewelers have the experience and certifications needed to make sure to repair your rings without leaving a trace behind of their work.
Invisible Settings Versus Mystery Settings
What is the Difference Between Invisible Settings and Mystery Settings?
You may have heard an alternative term used for invisible settings known as “mystery setting.” But is there a difference between the two? Although these two variations of the technique are used interchangeably, “mystery setting” is really just another term for “invisible setting.” However, that wasn’t always the case.
Today, “mystery setting” is just another phrase used for “invisible setting,” but the main difference between these two settings back then was the gemstones that were used. Invisible settings were most commonly used with diamonds only. Mystery settings incorporated colored gemstones such as emeralds, sapphires, and rubies with the main focus being to bring out the colors.

Invisible Settings at My Jewelry Repair
The best way to secure invisibly set stones is to hand-cut grooves into the girdle of the gemstones. This method is time-consuming, and therefore it is more expensive. However, cutting the individual stones creates pressure between them, which keeps them secured within the metal framework so they are protected. Here are My Jewelry Repair, we have a team of Master Jewelers that so happen to be Invisible Setting specialists!
