A Shattered Movado Museum Classic Restoration

Professionally Restoring This Movado Museum Classic
Welcome back to another Before & After blog spotlight! We’re excited to showcase this drastic restoration of a Movado timepiece from the Museum Classic Collection. Watch crystal replacements like this are one of the most visually apparent repairs, but are also why they’re so satisfying to see before and after servicing.
The owner had sent in the watch for a crystal replacement; however, most watch owners don’t expect that having a movement servicing or an overhaul is commonly required along with crystal replacements. We’ll break down why these repairs go hand-in-hand further in the blog.

The Details of this Movado Watch Restoration
For this Movado timepiece repair, we had to:
- Perform our standard and free professional evaluation by our expert technicians after noting the repair requests of the customer
- As you may have already known, although we are an online jewelry and watch repair company, we only provide evaluations when our skilled craftsmen can physically asses the items in person at our secure facility
- Source out new genuine parts including a watch crystal, crystal gasket, watch dial, and quartz movement, as an authorized service provider of Movado
- Perform a quartz movement replacement
- Install the new dial, watch gasket, and watch crystal
- Finish off with a complimentary professional polishing
And voilà! This Movado Museum Classic was restored back to its pristine condition, with no issues along the restoration process.

Watch Crystal Replacements and Movement Servicing
Why These Two Repairs Go Hand-in-Hand
In many cases, movement servicing or replacement is required with a watch crystal replacement. When a watch crystal is shattered, it is important to check the watch movement since microscopic glass or sapphire particles can get into the movement causing damage. This can cause the need for watch movement servicing, and potentially replacement of movement parts, just like what had happened with this specific Movado Museum Classic. When this happens, our Watchmakers include water and pressure testing during the service to ensure factory standards are maintained.

The History of the Movado Museum Classic
Restoring a Classic Piece as An Authorized Service Provider
As briefly discussed before in our other Museum Classic repair spotlight, Movado’s most iconic design emerged in 1947 with the creation of the Museum Watch by American industrial designer Nathan George Horwitt.
This watch, with its stark black dial and a single gold dot at 12 o’clock symbolizing the sun at high noon, became a design legend. In 1960, it was officially added to Movado’s collection and later included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, cementing Movado’s reputation as a leader in modern watch design.

Sometimes, finding parts for watches can be a challenge, but our long history with the industry has given us access to great sources. We have a Professional Parts Sourcing Team in place with the sole purpose of finding accurate and genuine parts. This includes access to Movado parts straight from the manufacturer as an authorized service provider.
Repairs for models like this Movado Museum Classic are skillfully performed by our Certified Watchmakers, with their extensive expertise in watchmaking for over 25 years, to meet the best standards that timepieces require. Our Watchmakers have many Certifications, including:
